G’Day and welcome to what is the first of many woodworking blogs here on the Melbourne Tool Company (MTC) website. The purpose of the MTC blog is first and foremost to convey information. We have a lot of hand tool knowledge and we want to share it. Whether it’s basic information about how to get your new tool up and running, or more advanced topics like cutting and adjusting joinery, we’re here to help.

What is the MTC approach to tools and woodworking?

MTC is about keeping it fun, simple, practical, and authentic. We recognize and respect past tools and traditions, while embracing new and modern ways. We know there isn’t a “one size fits all” when it comes to woodworking, so we will cover a variety of techniques.

The longer you woodwork, the more you understand that there isn’t necessarily a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to do things. With that in mind, you will likely see multiple ways to accomplish the same thing. This isn’t meant to be confusing and if it is, we’re sorry, so please comment and ask questions. We just want to share everything we know.

Rather than being dogmatic about it, we will show you multiple ways so that you can decide for yourself. There are enough polarizing opinions out there on the interwebs – we don’t want to add to the noise. Think of this blog as a lighthouse in the fog of information. We want to help you do your best work.
